DIY rug

so i was looking on some design website, and found a tutorial for this latch hook rug. once i saw it, i knew i had to do it for civil's room. so i gathered my supplies and had high hopes of doing some huge, amazing rug. i dyed our jersey cotton white sheets (which also gave me the excuse to finally buy the damask ones i wanted :) a dark blue. but every time i use RIT dye, my stuff seems to come out purple-ish. so i bought some more dye and dyed it dark grey hoping to offset the purple. then alma's mom came in town and gave me some other dye that is supposedly much better, so i tried that stuff too. and this is the color it ended up. some might say it's purple/periwinkle, but i like to think of it as more of a blue thankyouverymuch. it took a lot of hours to hook every single piece in there (luckily mom smith cut up all my pieces for me when she was here, thanks mom!), but wasn't a big deal b/c i'd just do it when i was watching a movie or something at night. the kids even thought it was fun to separate all my strips and give them to me when i was ready :) the only unfortunate thing was that is was 1/3 as big as i would have liked. but with my dying frenzy, there was no way i was going to be able to come up with the same color no matter what i did! so here you have it...i absolutely love the texture and it's so soft. the kids all love it too. it was a good starter rug. i've been toying with the idea of doing a humongous one for our living room...

cute rug. I had the thought though that if you wanted it bigger you could make that the middle of the rug and do a contrasting or coordinating color all around it. You'd just need to have the fabric the same but the color can be completely different.

Fun project!
